Amazon Error 8541: Attribute Mismatch on the Matched ASIN

Error 8541 means the value in your flat-file conflicts with the value Amazon already holds in its catalog for the ASIN you matched. Amazon shows it as a "Merchant: 'X' / Amazon: 'Y'" diagnostic — most often on manufacturer, model_number, color_name, or material. You clear it by reconciling your value to Amazon’s canonical value (Amazon’s side is frequently empty, which still counts as a conflict).

How to fix it

  1. Read the Merchant vs Amazon diagnostic. Find the "Merchant: 'X' / Amazon: 'Y'" line in the error report. It names the exact attribute (e.g. manufacturer or model_number) and both conflicting values.
  2. Reconcile to Amazon’s canonical value. For each flagged SKU, change your cell to match Amazon’s value. If Amazon’s value is empty, clear or align your field so it no longer overrides the catalog.
  3. Escalate genuine catalog errors. If Amazon’s value is wrong (a pirate-UPC or dead-ASIN hijack of your listing), reconciling won’t help — those rows are flagged for a Seller Support escalation instead.
  4. Re-upload the corrected flat-file. Upload the reconciled file in Seller Central. The 8541 conflicts on the fixable rows clear immediately.

Frequently asked questions

What does Amazon error 8541 actually mean?

It is an attribute mismatch: the value you submitted for an attribute (such as manufacturer, model_number, color_name, or material) conflicts with the value Amazon already stores for the ASIN you matched.

Why is Amazon’s value empty in the diagnostic?

An empty Amazon value still counts as a conflict because your value is trying to overwrite the catalog. Aligning (or clearing) your field to match Amazon resolves it.

Can every 8541 error be auto-fixed?

Most are fixable by reconciling to Amazon’s value. The exception is when Amazon’s own value is wrong — e.g. a pirate UPC or dead ASIN hijacked your listing — which needs a Seller Support escalation, not a flat-file edit.
